Focus of Week Eleven

The strategy of international business.  The sourcing of goods and services is one method business employs. Buying raw materials at discount prices from foreign sources helps reduce costs. Outsourcing labor to a low cost labor market may reduce costs. Similarly, growth and expansion takes advantage of economies of scale savings and efficiencies to reduce costs. Finally, strategic alliances can increase growth and reduce costs.

Review Chapter Fourteen and PowerPoint Chapter 14 Summary

• Using the product and country you selected for the Week 3 Discussion Board, describe the organizational structure and the type of control system your company employs.  Discuss how doing business on a gloabl scale could change the structure and control system to be more effective in its global reach.
• Post a substantive reply to one other student’s post.

Assignment 11.2 - Research Assignment

• 13th Edition BA437-637 Students - Read the Closing Case in Chapter 14, Walmart International.  Discuss the similarities and differences in the global operation of Walmart compared to the other global companies such as Costco and Target.
• 12th Edition BA437-637 Students - Read the Closing Case in Chapter 14, Organizational Architecture at P&G.  Discuss the similarities and differences in the global operations of P&G compared to other global companies such as Colgate-Palmolive, Church and Dwight, and Unilever.
• BA647 Students Only - Additionally, consider the effect of Walmart or P&G's strategies on the economies of its foreign customers and provide an example how Walmart or P&G were able to integrate with the culture of the target countries.
