Electric vehicle sales have risen significantly over the years. That trend is expected to continue with the market on track to surpass 1 million sales for the first time ever this year. Those numbers, however, are not meeting the expectations of manufacturers, car dealers and President Biden.

Many U.S. buyers say car dealerships, which sell the majority of new vehicles, are not prepared for the electric transition. The Biden administration aims to have as many as two-thirds of new cars sold in the United States be electric by 2032; and automakers have invested hundreds of billions of dollars in EVs. But if car dealers don't want to sell EVs, the country's electric transition could be in jeopardy.

The electric vehicle rollercoaster has, over the past year, seen record-setting sales, price hikes, and mostly recently price slashes. Added to the mix are new EV incentives from the inflation reduction act, and that relief for buyers is putting new upward pressures on pricing. How do automakers ride this coaster to achieve a healthy profit?
