1. Type a search term or search phrase into the “Discovery” search box or a specific database to see what sources come up. If using a search phrase, enclose the phrase in quotation marks; for example, “population health”.
2. “Discovery” searches can be narrowed by selecting full text online, scholarly & peer reviewed book/ebook, journal article, and publication date, etc. located on the left.
3. When searching MEDLINE with full text, click on MeSH 2015 (This gives subject terms assigned to articles). Click on the term and look for narrower terms or more specific terms or broader terms.
4. When locating the thesaurus in other databases, you may need to click on “advanced search”.
Type your term in the search box and chose the box: term begins with, term contains, or relevancy ranked. Click the browse to see what subject term you should use.
